परिचय

गिर राष्ट्रीय उद्यान, जिसे सासन गिर के नाम से भी जाना जाता है, गुजरात का एक प्रमुख वन्यजीव अभयारण्य है, जो एशियाई शेर (Panthera leo persica) के अंतिम प्राकृतिक आश्रय स्थल के रूप में प्रसिद्ध है। इसे 1965 में स्थापित किया गया था और यह 1,412 वर्ग किलोमीटर क्षेत्र में फैला है, जिसमें 258 वर्ग किलोमीटर कोर राष्ट्रीय उद्यान और 1,153 वर्ग किलोमीटर वन्यजीव अभयारण्य शामिल है। यह भारत की जैव-विविधता संरक्षण की प्रतिबद्धता का महत्वपूर्ण प्रतीक है।


मुख्य विशेषताएँ

  • स्थान: तालाला गिर, गुजरात में स्थित। यह जूनागढ़ से लगभग 65 किमी दक्षिण-पूर्व, वेरावल से 43 किमी उत्तर-पूर्व और अमरेली से 60 किमी दक्षिण-पश्चिम में है।

  • पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र: खथियार–गिर शुष्क पर्णपाती वन क्षेत्र का हिस्सा। इसमें सागौन प्रधान वन पाए जाते हैं, साथ ही बबूल, बेर, जामुन और बरगद जैसे पेड़ भी हैं। उद्यान में घास के मैदान, झाड़ियाँ और पथरीली पहाड़ियाँ हैं, जो 507 से अधिक पौधों की प्रजातियों को सहारा देती हैं।

  • वन्यजीव: यहाँ 674 एशियाई शेर (2020 की जनगणना) के अलावा तेंदुए, लकड़बग्घे, सियार, चीतल, सांभर, नीलगाय, चौसिंगा (चार सींगों वाला मृग), काला हिरण, मगरमच्छ और 300 से अधिक पक्षी प्रजातियाँ पाई जाती हैं, जिनमें एशियन पैराडाइज़ फ्लाईकैचर और क्रेस्टेड सर्पेंट ईगल प्रमुख हैं। इसे एक महत्वपूर्ण पक्षी क्षेत्र (Important Bird Area) के रूप में मान्यता मिली है।

  • नदियाँ और जलाशय: सात प्रमुख नदियाँ (हीरन, शेत्रुंजी, धतरवाड़ी, शिंगोड़ा, मच्छुंद्रि, अंबाजल, रावल) और चार जलाशय हैं। इनमें कमलेश्वर बाँध सबसे बड़ा है, जिसे गिर की “जीवनरेखा” कहा जाता है।


संरक्षण का इतिहास

  • पृष्ठभूमि: शिकार के कारण 19वीं शताब्दी के अंत तक एशियाई शेर लगभग विलुप्ति की कगार पर पहुँच गए थे, केवल 12 शेर ही बचे थे। जूनागढ़ के नवाबों ने शेरों की रक्षा शुरू की और ब्रिटिश शासन ने भी संरक्षण उपाय अपनाए। 1965 में इसे अभयारण्य और 1975 में कोर क्षेत्र को राष्ट्रीय उद्यान घोषित किया गया।

  • सफलता: संरक्षण उपायों, आवास पुनर्स्थापन और शिकार-निरोधी प्रयासों से शेरों की संख्या 2005 में 359 से बढ़कर 2015 में 523 और 2020 में 674 हो गई। यह वन्यजीव संरक्षण का एक वैश्विक मॉडल बन गया है।

  • खतरे: प्राकृतिक खतरे—सूखा, चक्रवात और जंगल की आग। मानव-जनित खतरे—अत्यधिक चराई, अतिक्रमण और पर्यटन से होने वाला दबाव।


पर्यटन गतिविधियाँ

  • गिर जंगल ट्रेल सफारी: 3 घंटे की खुली जीप सफारी, जो अभयारण्य की 13 निर्धारित मार्गों से होकर गुजरती है। इसमें शेर, तेंदुए और अन्य वन्यजीव देखने का अवसर मिलता है।

  • देवलिया सफारी पार्क (गिर इंटरप्रिटेशन ज़ोन): 412 हेक्टेयर का घेराबंद क्षेत्र, जो सासन गिर से 12 किमी दूर है। यहाँ शेरों को नियंत्रित क्षेत्र में देखने की गारंटी होती है। इसमें 55 मिनट की जीप या 45 मिनट की बस सफारी उपलब्ध है।

  • कांकाई मंदिर सफारी: इसमें वन्यजीव दर्शन के साथ-साथ कांकाई माता मंदिर और बनेज महादेव मंदिर का भ्रमण शामिल है, जो प्रकृति और आध्यात्मिकता का मिश्रण प्रस्तुत करता है।

  • पक्षी अवलोकन: 300 से अधिक पक्षी प्रजातियों के साथ गिर पक्षी प्रेमियों के लिए स्वर्ग है। यहाँ संकटग्रस्त सफेद पीठ वाला गिद्ध भी पाया जाता है।

  • शैक्षिक कार्यक्रम: पर्यटकों को जागरूक करने के लिए कार्यशालाएँ, व्याख्यान सत्र, विज़िटर सेंटर, नक्शे और पुस्तिकाएँ उपलब्ध कराई जाती हैं।

  • नियमावली: पर्यटन को सख्त नियमों के तहत संचालित किया जाता है। केवल निर्धारित मार्गों पर ही सफारी होती है, कोर क्षेत्र में ट्रैकिंग प्रतिबंधित है, और ड्रोन का उपयोग विशेष अनुमति के बिना वर्जित है।


यात्रा का सर्वोत्तम समय

  • खुला मौसम: 16 अक्टूबर से 15 जून तक।

  • आदर्श महीने: नवंबर से मार्च (सर्दी, तापमान 10°C–25°C) जब मौसम सुहावना और वन्यजीव सक्रिय होते हैं।

  • गर्मी (अप्रैल से जून): गर्म (29°C–43°C) लेकिन शेरों को जलाशयों के पास देखने की संभावना अधिक होती है।

  • मानसून (16 जून–15 अक्टूबर): मुख्य उद्यान बंद रहता है, परंतु देवलिया सफारी पार्क आंशिक रूप से खुला रहता है।


गिर राष्ट्रीय उद्यान कैसे पहुँचे

  • हवाई मार्ग: निकटतम हवाई अड्डे—दiu, केशोद, राजकोट और अहमदाबाद। यहाँ से टैक्सी और निजी गाड़ियाँ उपलब्ध हैं।

  • रेल मार्ग: जूनागढ़, वेरावल/सोमनाथ और राजकोट नज़दीकी स्टेशन हैं। ये अहमदाबाद, मुंबई और दिल्ली जैसे प्रमुख शहरों से जुड़े हैं।

  • सड़क मार्ग: राष्ट्रीय और राज्य राजमार्गों से अच्छी तरह जुड़ा है। जीएसआरटीसी और निजी बसें उपलब्ध हैं। निजी टैक्सी या गाड़ी बुक करके भी पहुँचा जा सकता है।

    • Nearest Railway Stations: Junagadh , Veraval/Somnath , and Rajkot.. These stations connect to major cities like Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Mumbai, and Delhi. Taxis, buses, or auto-rickshaws are available from stations to the park.
  • By Road:
    • Well-connected via national and state highways  . Distances: Junagadh  , Veraval , Rajkot, Ahmedabad , Mumbai . GSRTC and private buses operate from these cities to Sasan Gir. Private cars or taxis can be booked online or offline. Google Maps can guide to Sinh Sadan, the park’s entry point.

इस उद्योग का मूल मंत्र है “अतिथि देवो भवः”, जहाँ मुख्य उद्देश्य अतिथि की संतुष्टि, सुविधा और आराम सुनिश्चित करना है।
