Case Study: Major Hill Stations and Adventure Tourism in Uttarakhand

Introduction

Uttarakhand, popularly known as Dev Bhoomi (Land of Gods), was carved out of northern Uttar Pradesh on 9th November 2000 as India’s 27th State. The name Uttarakhand originates from the Sanskrit words — uttara (उत्तर) meaning “north” and khaṇḍa (खण्ड) meaning “section” or “part”, meaning “Northern Part”.
Located in the foothills of the Himalayas, the state shares international borders with China (Tibet) and Nepal, and domestic borders with Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh

With 45.43% forest cover, pristine rivers, glaciers, and snow-clad mountains, Uttarakhand is blessed with rich biodiversity, scenic beauty, and deep spirituality. Dehradun, the state capital, lies in the Doon Valley between the Ganga and Yamuna rivers and is one of India’s most scenic towns.
