Sariska National Park

The Sariska Tiger Reserve is an Indian national park located in the Alwar district of the state of Rajasthan. The topography of Sariska supports scrub-thorn arid forests, dry deciduous forests, rocks and grasses. This area was a hunting preserve of the erstwhile Alwar state and it was declared a wildlife reserve in 1955. In 1978, it was given the status of a tiger reserve making it a part of India's Project Tiger scheme. The present area of the park is 866 km². The park is situated 107 km from Jaipur and 200 km from Delhi.
Sariska is one of the major travel destination of India and famous for its national park or tiger reserve. Sariska as wildlife attractions of Rajasthan Tourism plays an important role in the enhancement of tourism in Rajasthan.
Major Wildlife Attractions
Sariska park is home to numerous carnivores including Leopard, Wild Dog, Jungle Cat, Hyena, Jackal, and Tiger. These feed on an large quantity of   species such as Sambar, Chitel, Nilgai, Chausingha, Wild Boar and Langur. Sariska is also well known for its large population of Rhesus Monkeys, which are found in large numbers around Talvriksh.
The avian world is also well represented with a rich and varied birdlife. These include Peafowl, Grey Partridge, Bush Quail, Sand Grouse, Tree Pie, Golden backed Wood Pecker, Crested Serpent Eagle and the Great Indian Horned Owl.
The dominant tree in the forests is dhok  . Other trees include the salar  , kadaya , dhak , gol , ber  and khair . Bargad , arjun , gugal  or bamboo can also be met at some places. Shubs are numerous, such as kair , adusta  and jhar ber.
Attractions
Kankwari Fort - this is a fort where once the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb captivated his brother, Dara Shikoh. The fort provides a comprehensive view of the surrounding villages. The fort is situated at a distance of two hours drive from the main entrance and it is advisable to visit it only if on a Four Wheel Drive. Special care should be taken during the monsoon.

Visit the Temples - There are two prominent temples within the park premises out of which one is dedicated to to Lord Shiva ( the Neelkanth Temples) and the other one dedicated to Lord Hanuman (Pandupol). The temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman attracts a huge number of devotees from the surrounding areas specially on Tuesdays and Saturdays. During these two days, buses filled with people are allowed to enter the park. The temples of the park are the prime reason which is responsible for opening up of the park throughout the year.

 General information Sariska Tiger Reserve
SARISKA is the only Tiger Reserve in close proximity of the Country’s capital City of New Delhi and Rajasthan’s capital city Jaipur.
Seasons – Winter – mid-October to January.  Spring – February to March. Summer – April to June.  Monsoon – July to mid-September.
Sariska Tiger Reserve remain open form 1st October to 30th June for all seven days of the week.



How to reach

The Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary is loacted in the Alwar district of Rajsthan, India. It is at a distance of around 200 km from Delhi and 107 km from Jaipur.
 
Air : Jaipur is the nearest airport from Sariska at a distance 107-kms.

Rail : The nearest railway station is at Alwar .

Road : Sariska wildlife sanctuary is situated off the Delhi-Alwar-Jaipur Road. Jaipur is located at a distance of 107-kms and Delhi at 200-kms from Sariska. Alwar, which is further directly connected with bus services from Delhi and Jaipur.
